Tracking the Crypto Fear & Greed Index in TradingView
The Fear & Greed Index (0–100) compresses sentiment into one number: near 0 is extreme fear, near 100 is extreme greed. It blends volatility, momentum/volume, social buzz and market dominance.
Why extremes are contrarian
- Extreme fear (<20): most people panic-sell, often near a local bottom — "be greedy when others are fearful";
- Extreme greed (>80): heavy FOMO and crowded leverage, pullback risk rises.
It's a contrarian sentiment tool: extremes warn you, they aren't precise buy/sell points.
How to use it
Treat sentiment as backdrop: don't chase in extreme greed, tighten stops; in extreme fear with price near key support, only then consider scaling in. Extreme sentiment + technical structure + extreme funding in confluence is the strongest signal.
Tip: sentiment can sit at extremes for a long time — "greed" doesn't mean an instant drop. It lowers the odds of acting wrongly in the wrong mood, but it won't time the market for you.
