Reading Volume Profile in Crypto: POC, Value Area & Nodes
Ordinary volume shows "how much traded on this candle"; Volume Profile shows "how much traded at each price" — it spreads volume horizontally across price, telling you where the coins are stacked.
Three key readings
- POC (Point of Control): the price with the most volume — the strongest magnet and support/resistance;
- Value Area (VA): the price band holding ~70% of volume; price tends to range within it;
- Low-volume nodes (LVN): thin gaps where price moves through fast — "vacuum zones."
How to use it in crypto
- After consolidation, the POC often becomes support on a retest after a breakout;
- Price entering an LVN vacuum tends to accelerate — go with it, not against;
- A breakout above the value-area high on rising volume is a notch more credible; a low-volume fake-out often falls back to the POC.
Tip: Fixed Range profile suits analyzing one leg (like a halving cycle); Session profile suits intraday. Advanced tools like Volume Profile come with some paid plans; to start, use VWAP + ordinary volume.
